Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are elected officials representing the people of all 27 European Union Member States (EU MS).

As such, they play a key role in the democratic functioning of the EU and in shaping policies that have an impact on the life of us all. Many MEPs have been instrumental in the past decade to propose fundamental policies that aim to prevent and eliminate gender-based violence including female genital mutilation.

End FGM EU has been working on maintaining a strong link with key MEPs also during this legislative period, which is in many ways increasingly challenging for the work of civil society.

We started with the 2024 election campaign – we prepared our manifesto for candidate MEPs and asked them to sign it as a pledge. Click here to see which elected MEPs signed the Manifesto to end FGM.

Through their ongoing work, selected Members of the European Parliament have shown themselves to be crucial partners for the community of the End FGM European Network and its members. The MEPs highlighted below have supported progress toward the elimination of female genital mutilation in Europe and beyond. Their involvement is now being showcased through the initiative #MEPs2EndFGM.

Now, we keep working together to ensure that key elements for gender equality and gender-based violence prevention be implemented effectively across the EU. You can find out more about the work in progress below.

In 2026, End FGM EU aims to build a group of strong and reliable allies in the European Parliament. To remain aligned with its values, End FGM EU collaborates only with MEPs who uphold these principles, who do not use survivors voices for political agendas, and who do not take racist or discriminatory positions, including regarding migrant or transgender communities. End FGM EU is an independent civil society organisation and has no political affiliations. The MEPs we choose to work with are embracing the approach for the sustainable elimination and prevention of female genital mutilation that is rooted in intersectional feminism and based on the experience of the affected communities, our members, our partners and leading research findings.

Our advocacy team is always looking for ways to interact with these major European players, if you are interested, you can contact Xheni Dani, Policy and Advocacy Coordinator (xdani@endfgm.eu), or Nejma Sayeh, Policy and Advocacy Officer (nsayeh@endfgm.eu).
