FGM is always with us: Experiences, perceptions and beliefs of women affected by FGM in London (2009)

This report of a peer study conducted by FORWARD UK and Options Consultancy presents results from a qualitative, participatory research study investigating beliefs, perceptions and experiences of women affected by FGM.

The participatory research process allowed women to articulate problems and priorities from their points of view, enabling dialogue on these hard-to discuss issues such as: what is the continuing impact of FGM on the lives of affected women; how women affected by FGM perceive and interact with services (especially health services); and how women feel about the practice of FGM, both for themselves and for younger generations.
