Launch of the Network Ambassadors Programme

The End FGM European Network has just launched the Ambassadors Programme. The Ambassadors are individuals with a personal link to the issue of FGM who have the passion and commitment to speak out against the practice. They will use their own experiences and community work they might already be doing, in order to shed light on the issue and contribute to the work of the End FGM Network in a volunteer capacity.

In the first phase of the programme, we have selected seven individuals – 6 women and 1 man – with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Over the course of two days – 9th and 10th of December – they will attend comprehensive training sessions on advocacy, communications, public speaking and the media. Our second training session with our French speaking Ambassadors continues on March 3rd and 4th.

The programme aims to increase understanding of FGM through sharing of personal stories, to empower and foster the mobilisation of communities’ representatives in Europe, contribute to advocating for the rights of those affected by FGM at the EU level, and support the Network’s work on building bridges between FGM-practising communities in Europe and countries of origin. Over the next months, the Ambassadors will have the opportunity to participate at EU level events and be involved in communication and advocacy activities organised by the Network.

Stay tuned for more information on each Ambassador and the new role they will be undertaking!
