Joint letter to the European Commission calling for the adoption of the Recommendation on harmful practices
Despite the commitments set out in the Gender Equality Strategy 2020-20251 and in the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025, the European Commission Recommendation on the prevention of harmful practices against women and girls has not yet been published.
This recommendation will be a key tool in providing guidance to Member States on how to effectively tackle FGM and other forms of harmful practices and so End FGM EU is disappointed that the adoption of this important tool has been subject to such long delays.
End FGM EU, along with other civil society organisations, healthcare professionals and academics, have issued a letter to President von der Leyen urging for its swift adoption and highlighting the importance of the Recommendation in assisting Member States to address FGM and other harmful practices within the EU.
