GYCHP TikTok Live: End FGM EU Youth Ambassador Samsam Hassan joins the conversation

Our Ambassadors are coming together on 19–20 September 2026 in Brussels for two days of connection, learning and collective action. One of End FGM EU’s Youth Ambassadors, Samsam Hassan was one of the panelists and shared some thoughtful insights during the conversation.

In today’s challenging geopolitical landscape, Samsam underlines how important is to raise awareness but especially to take action. Young people need to be equipped with the necessary tools to play an active role in driving change. In this regard, adequate funding is essential to enable them to organise and lead initiatives with affected communities, while also supporting organisations working to end female genital mutilation.

During this live Samsam highlighted how crucial it is to remain proactive and creative in the face of contemporary challenges, such as the ongoing funding cuts. Every action count, from engaging conversations with families and affected communities to developing small projects or campaigns. She emphasised that even small-scale efforts can have a significant impact.

Intergenerational dialogue between communities, religious, political leaders and young people is critical to foster change. Young people shouldn’t be tokenised in representative spaces and political debates but encouraged to express their perspectives and shape policies. For this year’s edition, the same group of Ambassadors will come together to reflect on what they have achieved, what they have learned, where they have made an impact and where more needs to be done.

Youth are playing a crucial role in shaping narratives, beliefs and in challenging social norms that are harmful and detrimental for women and girls.

They can really build a society where female genital mutilation and other harmful practices finally come to an end.
