AIDOS: “Against All Odds” movie wins first prize at the Fespaco Festival, Ouagadougou

The second phase of the “Building Bridges between Africa and Europe to tackle FGM” project, supported by the UNFPA/UNICEF Joint Program on FGM, began in 018 and will last until 2021. One of the video produced during the previous phase won the first prize as short documentary at the Fespaco Festival in Ouagadougou.

“Against All Odds” tells the true story of Charity, who was the first girl in her village to say no to FGM, when she was only 12 years old; a short version of the video is available on YouTube (now subbed also in Spanish). New thematic discussions on medicalisation, mainstreaming efforts on FGM and religion took place within the Community of Practice (register here to participate).

In the framework of the EU/UNFPA/UNHCR supported MED-RES project, AIDOS held a series of ToTs addressed to professionals working in the asylum context in Italy, Malta and Spain. The trainings focused on how to prevent and respond to sexual and gender based violence, including FGM, contributing to the protection and support of refugees and asylum seekers survivors of SGBV. In the next months, the trained professionals will conduct in turn roll out sessions addressed to their colleagues, allowing to reach a large number of professionals in the 3 countries.
