EU Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World in 2014

The EU Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World in 2014 mentions several initiatives taken up by the EU to combat FGM worldwide. It states that during the Girl Summit in July the EU pledged more than EUR 100 million for the next seven years to gender equality and children's wellbeing, including concrete projects on ending female genital mutilation and child, early and forced marriage, it focused efforts on the implementation of the 2013 Communication on eliminating female genital mutilation, which defines concrete measures to tackle FGM, with a strong focus on prevention and victim support, and in June 2014, the Council adopted conclusions on preventing and combating all forms of violence against women and girls, including FGM.
