LESSAN started nationwide training in communities and with key professionals on how to use the letter of protection
The Letter of protection against Female Genital Mutilation/Circumcision (FGM/C) is a milestone in the effort to end FGM/C. The document provides information about support services and legal consequences of this human rights violation. This document, which includes information on support services as well as guidance on the legal consequences of FGM/C, will enable women, girls, and family fathers to strengthen their voices against FGM/C and protect girls and women affected by it. The project aims to raise awareness on a community and professional level about how the letter of protection can be used effectively in counselling and prevention work without stigmatizing.
More than thirty multipliers from communities in all federal states, activists and all those interested in working with communities have already been trained in the use of the letter of protection and are conducting independently organized awareness-raising activities. Training sessions for health care workers, social workers, refugee shelters and counsellors working with affected and vulnerable girls and women are conducted by experts from LESSAN. They explain how the letter of protection can be brought up, for example, when traveling to the home country or in the diverse communities in Germany, to prevent further FGM/C incidents.

On LESSAN's website www.lessan.eu you can download the letter of protection in your language and always carry it with you. Good thing this is also available as an audio file in 15 languages for illiterate people.
