6th February marks the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). To honour this day, From 4th to 7th February we will be organizing and participating in a week of events alongside our partners. This week provides an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to ending FGM, celebrate progress, reflect on the year ahead, and to launch our annual campaign.

Throughout the week, events will bring together advocates, policy-makers, professionals, and youth activists to advance the conversation, raise awareness and push for meaningful action in ending FGM.

Day 1
– Tuesday, 4 February 2025

The Join Our Chain International Conference

Let’s come together to celebrate the successes of the Join Our Chain project with our partners, key European decision makers, allies, and ambassadors. The event co-hosted by MEP Maria Noichl (S&D Germany), will raise awareness on the project’s result by highlighting the powerful impact that it had on a local and European level. The conference will be also a pivotal moment as we will be launching our Annual Campaign.

GAMS Be National Conference - Towards the elimination of FGM: A coordinated national approach

GAMS Be, together with our Interim Director, Marianne Nguena Kana, federal parliamentarians, other administrations (early childhood, equal opportunities), and civil society, will explore the progress made so far in Belgium in ending FGM, as well as the priorities for the coming years.

Y-ACT final event “ SPEAK UP - Giving voice to younger generations for the prevention of FGM

This event, part of the Y-ACT project co-financed by the European Union (CERV - DAPHNE), is led by Amref Italy and Co-hosted with MEP Cristina Guarda, along with partners including the Association Le Reseau, the Coordinamento Nazionale Nuove Generazioni Italiane (CONNGI), and the University of Milan Bicocca. This powerful momentum will feature speeches from our Interim Director, Marianne Nguena Kana, and Senior Project Officer, Queralt Perarnau, as well as a presentation of the communities' Manifesto for the Abandonment of FGM by youth activists.

ActionAid will commemorate the World Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation by hosting a conference with the Italian Society on reconstructive surgery. Our Policy & Advocacy Coordinator, Xheni Dani, will contribute with her insights, together with Institutions, associations, and healthcare professionals. The conference will focus on FGM reconstructive surgery in Italy and Europe.

Stakeholder meeting - End FGM E-Campus, a key online tool for practitioners, with the support of the UK Mission to the European Union.

In this meeting, our Interim Director will discuss the Annual Campaign and present the E-Campus project—a free online platform for professionals working on FGM to share knowledge and exchange best practices. Aminata Sidibe, our co-president and coordinator for GAMS, along with our Policy & Advocacy Coordinator, Xheni Dani, will also attend and share identified best practices.
