Driving change through social media platforms and intergenerational dialogue
Bassmala Mohammed Morkaz, one of our End FGM EU Youth Ambassador, was the guest on a special episode “The Purple Chair and the Power of Youth-Led Conversations,” hosted by Patricia Mars from the Changing Narratives podcast, in collaboration with the U.S End FGM/C Network during Women Deliver 2026.
In this conversation recorded in Australia, Bassmala emphasises the importance for young people to use social media platforms and digital formats like podcasts in raising awareness about female genital mutilation (FGM) and harmful practices.
For our project “The Purple Chair” podcast, she previously recorded an episode with her mother talking about FGM and why we should tackle it, especially for younger generations.
She highlighted how important this discussion was because it encourages and fosters intergenerational dialogue.
In an interconnected and digital world like ours, through social media platforms and tools/ formats tailored for young people, their voices can truly lead the change towards a world without FGM and gender-based violence.
